[32.0] Loyal Mobster skips activation when goldenized

TL;DR

If a Lobster [1] gets goldenized end-of-turn, its activation is skipped.

Setup

We were playing duos in Tier 7 anomaly (“Secrets of Norgannon”) [2]. I had a setup of the following minions, in order:

  1. Golden Brann Bronzebeard [3]
  2. Golden Sanguine Champion [4]
  3. Golden Captain Sanders [5]
  4. Golden Young Murk-eye [6]
  5. Regular Gem Smuggler [7]
  6. Regular Loyal Mobster [8]
  7. Golden Drakkari Enchanter [9]

Expected

  1. End-of-turn trigger begins
  2. Murk-eye declares its trigger, three times
    1. Sanders declares its trigger, three times
      • Sanders goldenizes both Gem Smuggler & Loyal Mobster
    2. Gem Smuggler (now golden) declares its trigger, thee times
      • 6 gems are played on all other friendly minions
    3. Step 2.1 repeats with no effect
    4. Step 2.2 repeats two more times
  3. Loyal Mobster declares its trigger, three times
    • 6 gems are played on all teammate’s minions
  4. End-of-turn trigger ends

Actual

  1. End-of-turn trigger begins
  2. Step 2 is as expected (Murk-eye declares its trigger, three times)
  3. Step 3 is skipped, Lobster is not activated this turn (neither regular nor golden)
  4. End-of-turn trigger ends

I haven’t tested if this is lobster-specific behaviour, or it is same for all end-of-turn minions goldenized earlier during this end-of-turn phase.

P.S.

The game was partially recorded via Firestone, I can provide retro-screenshots of warbands or the replay if needed.

  1. Yes, I call him lobster, because he’s “LOyal mOBSTER” and he’s red like lobster. ↩︎

  2. Tavern Tier 7 exists. Start with 10 extra Armor. ↩︎

  3. Your Battlecries trigger three times. ↩︎

  4. Battlecry and Deathrattle: Your Blood Gems give an extra +2/+2 this game. ↩︎

  5. Battlecry: Make a friendly minion Golden. ↩︎

  6. At the end of your turn, trigger the Battlecries of adjacent minions. ↩︎

  7. Battlecry: Play a Blood Gem on all your other minions. ↩︎

  8. At the end of your turn, play a Blood Gem on all your teammate’s minions. ↩︎

  9. Your end of turn effects trigger three times. ↩︎

When your end-of-turn phase arrives, the game makes a list of all your EOT effects and then resolves them one by one.

If a new EOT effect is created as a result, it’s too late. The EOT phase already started. The game already made a list of your EOT effects, and unlike Santa, it doesn’t check the list twice. The train already left the station.

The goldenized Mobster is a brand-new minion that did not exist at the start of the EOT phase. It is not the same Mobster.

The problem is this is not how this supposed to be - we are making a minion golden, it is the same minion, and every specifically-target external trigger (i.e., Teron’s ability) would work on it after goldenization. In other words, goldenization should inherit card’s ID as it inherits its buffs.

Edit:

Okay, before posting, I checked for duplicates on “Mobster”, didn’t check for “Sanders”. Here they are.

As far as I am aware, that is not the case.

The game treats it as a brand-new minion.

Okay. I have a counter-proof.
If Y’Shaarj [1] summons a minion with Start of Combat, that minion would trigger despite not being present at the start of actual combat.

  1. Start of Combat: Summon and get a minion of your Tier. ↩︎
